Stadtwerke Leipzig selects Previse Systems to build the digital backbone of its energy trading operations
Previse Systems has been selected by Stadtwerke Leipzig (SWL) to deliver its next-generation Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) platform, supporting one of Germany’s largest municipal utilities in the modernisation of its energy trading, risk management, and settlement operations. The decision follows a competitive procurement process focused on establishing a future-ready platform capable of supporting increasing market complexity, regulatory requirements, and continued growth in energy trading activities.
The new platform will serve as the digital backbone for SWL's wholesale energy activities across electricity, gas, and environmental certificates. The selected solution will support trading, risk management, settlement, reporting, regulatory compliance, and data management within a unified environment.
Building the operating system for the next decade of energy trading
Energy trading organisations are under growing pressure to manage larger transaction volumes, increasing regulatory obligations, and a rapidly expanding ecosystem of market interfaces and data sources. During its procurement process, Stadtwerke Leipzig emphasised the need for a highly automated and integrated platform capable of supporting thousands of transactions daily while providing transparency, flexibility, and long-term scalability.
Previse Systems was selected based on its ability to provide a comprehensive ETRM platform covering the full trading lifecycle—from deal capture and portfolio management to risk management, accounting, reporting, market communication, and integration with surrounding enterprise systems. A particular focus of the project will be automation, low-code configurability, and seamless integration into SWL’s existing technology landscape.
The combination of deep functional coverage and flexible architecture will allow Stadtwerke Leipzig to continue evolving its operating model while maintaining a stable and scalable system landscape for years to come.
